Recently I discovered an embarrassing prejudice. I had just launched the website and started to lay groundwork for upcoming programs. I birthed this magical baby and brought it home...and then the postpartum set it. My emotions were mingled with elation and terror. For several days I pondered how to move Rite in the Wild forward in a healthy, regenerative pace? The answer, in part, came from a friend and fellow guide, Shawna Sherman.
Shawna is the founder and creative force behind Hibiscus Consulting - an inspiring business that guides people through transformative change. She generously offered to help me create a business plan to ensure I tend to all aspects of unfolding my heart's work. The only problem was that I associated the word "business" with corporate greed, break neck pace, and hollow values. Certainly I wasn't starting a business, was I? Our first meeting I was nervous and reluctant. Shawna gave me an overview of being in business and my body began to buzz like an agitated bee hive. I told her how I was feeling and what happened next changed the course of my neural network. We stopped. Shawna stopped our discussion and let me breath deep into the anxiety I was feeling. Then she gently guided me into, what I call, sacred space and through a grounding guided meditation. She didn't push me forward or bypass my feelings. She let my spirit catch up to the new reality she was sharing. Her own alignment of heart and work allowed me to inhabit a different consciousness. How extraordinary! What she did for me is what I do for others - guide people through change in an embodied way. But my lack of business experience never allowed me to consider that we can develop our businesses with our heart, body, and mind aligned. The chasm between business and heart had mended, all from this profound yet simple space created between us. By the end of our call I was relaxed and receptive to an expanded view. And this has been true on every call since. Having my prejudices broken apart in one fell swoop underscores the importance of returning again and again to an open heart and flexible mind. My path to getting there is being relaxed in my body. Only then can old beliefs dissipate and new creativity take their place. It turns out I am starting a business. One that aligns with my values of service and reciprocity and heartfelt action. And fortunately I get to set the pace and learn how to embody my values through entrepreneurship. I'm eager for what lies ahead! |
